Technology

At one point in time, the technology needs of this district were relatively simple.

We had a few servers and one PC per classroom for the teacher’s use. There were a couple of computer labs. Email use and Internet usage was minimal. Instructional materials meant textbooks. Cloud computing didn’t exist, neither did Social Media.

Fast forward to today. Textbooks are going digital. Testing is online. Educational resources are available online and often use streaming video. Every student in the district from 2nd grade up through 12th has a school controlled Google Account and a device. They are using them to collaborate with their fellow students, to submit work to their teachers, and to research.

We have gone from approximately 300 PCs district wide to over 1,500 mobile devices in the hands of students, faculty and staff. We have PCs, Macbooks, iPads and Chromebooks. The classrooms have LCD projectors, Smartboards, Eno boards, and sound systems. Educational Technology has changed from a nice supplement to education to critical for our students education.

The job of the technology team is to keep all this technology running and to assist the staff, faculty and students in figuring out how to use it all. We must keep up with all the advances that seem to happen at the speed of light and determine how they will affect this district and our students. There is something new to learn everyday.

We are never bored.
