ANNUAL ASBESTOS NOTIFICATION LETTER

For School Year 2018 - 2019

 Date:  September 14, 2018

 Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, Staff, and Building Occupants:

The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) regulations required that all school buildings be visually inspected by accredited asbestos inspectors and that the results of the inspection (s) are reported in the Asbestos Management Plan, which is updated every three years.  The plan must be available for review in all school facilities.   However, the Douglas High School & Douglas Elementary School have signed statements from the architect stating that no ACBM (Asbestos Containing Building Materials) was specified in the building’s construction.  The Douglas Middle School repairs included removal of asbestos containing materials in accordance with applicable regulations.  The Douglas Primary School complies with all AHERA re-inspection, asbestos management plan, periodic surveillance, and reporting requirements. 

It is the intention of the Douglas Public Schools to comply with all federal and state regulations controlling asbestos and to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure students and employees a healthy and safe environment in which to learn and work.  A copy of each school’s Asbestos Management Plan is available for on-site review at each School’s main office during regular school hours.
