Special Education Programs

Classroom Based Services
These district wide programs are designed for students at all levels requiring specially designed instruction within the classroom setting. Services are provided by:
teachers, special educators, special education teaching assistants, and related service providers.

Integrated Preschool Program
This program is designed for students ages 3-5 with disabilities. Students receive services within the integrated preschool setting. The LEAP program (Learning Experiences: An Alternative Program For Preschoolers and Parents) provides an evidenced based, highly effective, developmentally appropriate model for children with autism and their typically developing peers. Services are provided by: special educators, special education teaching assistants and related service providers. This program is located at the Early Childhood Center.

Pull Out Services
These district wide programs are designed for students at all levels requiring specially designed instruction outside of a classroom setting. Services are provided by: special educators, related services providers, and special education teaching assistants.

Intensive Services
This program is designed for students at all levels requiring intense direct instruction and remediation as well as skill development to participate in the general curriculum. In the upper grades there is an emphasis on the development of vocational skills in addition to academic preparation. Programs are located at:

  • Learning Center
    Douglas Elementary School K-2
    Douglas Intermediate/ Elementary 

  • Douglas High School grades 8-12

  • STARS (grades 9 through age 22)

Social/Academic Services
This program is designed for students in grades 3-12 with emotional and behavioral disabilities who require specially designed instruction. Programs are located at:

  • Specialized Learning Center (grades 3-7) DIES
  • Specialized Learning Center (grades 8-12) DHS

Language Based Services
This program is designed for students at all levels who require substantial services due to language based learning disabilities. Programs are located at:

  • Specialized Learning Center (grades K-2) DES
  • Specialized Learning Center (grades 3-7) DIES
  • Specialized Learning Center (grades 8-12) DHS

Extended School Year
Students who meet the substantial regression criteria as defined by the regulations and recommended by the team are eligible for summer 5 week program. These programs are located at:

  • ECC
  • Douglas Elementary School
  • Douglas Middle School
  • Douglas High School
